Week 12 was an especially difficult week in our house, but I've been trying really hard to count our blessings and look on the bright side of life.
365/78 - 43 years ago my mum and dad got married as the snow fell. 43 years later the snow fell again, as my mum, dad and I tried to go and eat a fancy lunch to celebrate their anniversary. Only someone forgot to tell the snow to stop. It took us 5 hours to travel less than 30 miles, and we didn't get lunch. This was my view from the car window. I think we sat at this spot for nearly an hour without moving. We were the lucky ones, some people spent up to 18 hours trapped in their car (the UK is rubbish at dealing with snow).
365/79 - I grew up on the west coast of Scotland, just outside of a town called Largs. I love Largs, it's such a beautiful spot - definitely my happy spot. My dad and I went a walk along the sea-front, and I took this photo of The Pencil, and the views across the water towards Arran. This was a good good day.
365/80 - Stuck again. I was trying to get home from my parents. My train got cancelled and I was stuck outside in the freezing cold at the train station in Glasgow. Eventually I managed to find a bus that got me out of Glasgow. Unfortunately it took another 2 buses to get home. All in all it took over 7 hours to travel just 50 miles. This was the view from my bus that got stuck on the motorway for hours.
365/81 - My bad luck continued. On Tuesday night our pipes froze again. Boyfriend spent all of Wednesday trying to defrost them. Unfortunately they burst in the early hours of Thursday morning. We had to get a plumber out and the only option was to pull down bits of the wall to get into the pipes. This is the sorry sight in my kitchen where the wall got torn down. We got off lightly though, it flooded our downstairs neighbour. I may have cried a little.
365/82 - I decided it was time to try and get into the holiday spirit by wrapping my Christmas presents. I was a bit time pressed to go in for fancy hand crafted wrapping, but next year I have promised myself that I will be more organised!
365/83 - My advent calendar is coming along. I didn't explain the beauty of it yesterday - behind every door is a decoration to hang on the pop-up tree! It's kept me smiling this week :)
365/84 - Another piece of bad luck. I ordered a Christmas tree back in November. Because of the weather we've had no post for weeks (see, the UK really is rubbish when it comes to winter!), and my 5 foot tree is lost in the post somewhere. It will be a Christmas miracle if it arrives any time before Christmas, as more snow is forecast for Thursday. I've made do by putting up my mini 40cm tree - it's so good to sit by the glow of it's twinkling lights.
I shouldn't really complain too much - all of these things really are just minor dramas in the grand scheme of things. So my thoughts are definitely with those who are experiencing much more serious dramas in their life.
Hope your week is off to a good start!
xx

I'd complain about our storm with the blinding squalls, but they are pretty good at snow removal here. It took a little while longer to go to work, but I was still able to do it in a little over an hour.
