This Week...

I Liked...
A weekend away in Perth with the girls.
Rays of sunshine poking through the clouds.
My new Minnetonka moccasins.
Early nights.
Perfectly ripe and juicy nectarines on sale in my local store.
Looking at wallpaper for the kitchen and nursery.  In love with the ranges from here and here.
I didn’t like...
Discovering baby has an aversion to gooseberries half way into a long journey home by train, in which I had just eaten said gooseberries.
Getting soaked to the skin by rain.  Wet tights are officially the worst feeling in the world.
Getting ejected from a high school prom that we crashed during the weekend away in Perth.  Yes, we are that cool.
My morning sickness, which has really upped its’ ante lately.
Blogger acting up.  Really sick of it at the moment.

ps: another super old pre-pregnancy photo of me, from when i used to do arts and crafts with kids.  I'll get my act together and take some photos soon!

This Week...

...I liked:

Long Sunday lunches with friends.
Napping on the sofa under the skylight, with the rain softly pitter pattering on the window
Designing our new kitchen (we hope to start work in August!)
Red velvet whoopie pies from Waitrose
My slowly expanding belly (though this could be more from the macaroni cheese and whoopie pies...!)
My wonderful (and rather hot) Irish dentist.
My new fancy, all singing, all dancing, combined washing machine and tumble dryer.

...I didn't like:

Finishing off the niggly bits of our bathroom renovation (I just want it to be done already)
Not knowing if I'm feeling baby kicking, or if it's just gas(!)
Having boyfriend work out of town for days on end (but he's back now - yay!)
Feeling the urge to nap constantly, even at work or on the bus (drooling in public is not a good look).
The near constant rain we've had since early May.  I want to be able to wear sandals already!

How was your week?

Thank you...

...so much for all of your very kind wishes about my last post!

It's so wonderful to be able to share our good news after months of keeping it a secret!

Baby is due around Christmas time, so needless to say we are counting down the days until Christmas!

I promise I'm not going to turn the blog into a baby blog, or anything.  But what I will do for today is share with you a few things I've bought for for baby, then it's back to normal service - promise :)

The very first thing I bought was this book, from the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh:

I can't wait to start teaching Baby the alphabet with this beautiful book.

I then bought this little lime green giraffe print suit from Gap.  Unfortunately I can't find it online anymore:

We're not finding out the sex of Baby, which is good as it means we don't end up with a load of pale pink or pale blue clothes.  I'm particularly not a fan of dressing little girls in pink (I HATE the colour pink with a passion) or little boys in light blue, and I'm trying to avoid the unisex trap of pale yellow and pale green clothing too.  I'm pretty sure it's possible, and this little giraffe suit definitely fits the bill!

Then I bought something for Baby's room.  These circus matroshka dolls that I bought from the Little Baby Company.

Aren't they the cutest?  My favourite is the magician pulling the rabbit out of the hat.

I've calmed down my spending now, after the initial flush of excitement, and have taken to thrifting for baby things.  I loved thrifting before, but thrifting for baby things is like a new untapped world of joy for me!

Beards

{us}

I don't post many photos of boyfriend on here (he's a little shy).

But one thing I must tell you about boyfriend is that he is a little bit hairy.  He has long hair and an aversion to shaving.  He also has a propensity to sprout hair on his face only hours after shaving.  I'd be a happy Wendy if he'd shave every day.  Apparently this is too painful, so I tolerate the scratchy stubble before shouting at him to shave it off.

For years and years he's been telling me that the stubble wouldn't be a problem if he could grow a beard.  Apparently it's softer once the hair gets longer.  I don't quite believe this.  I'm also not so keen on beards: beards kind of freak me out (trapped food anyone?) and with the long hair I think he'd look too much like Jesus.  Boyfriend tells me that apparently the Jesus look is a good look, and in this season, but again I'm not wholly convinced on this matter.

Then, last year, during a debate about the beard (because that's how we roll around here), I may have uttered the words "you can grow a beard when we have a baby".  I'm not sure what led me to say this or the logic behind it (possibly because a baby equals less time for kissing?), but it was out there and there was no retracting this statement.

With lots of other things to occupy ourselves, like home renovations, and long commutes, we kind of forgot about the great beard debate for a while.  Then, one day, a while ago, boyfriend and I were having a little cuddle on the sofa, when I pressed a note into his hand.  All that note said was:

I think you can start growing a beard now.

The look of delight on his face when, after a few (very long) seconds he realised the meaning of the note, will stay with me forever.

These last few weeks...

...I have:

...discovered the joys of napping, and have taken to napping everywhere and anywhere it is possible to nap.
...stayed in my pyjamas whenever possible
...been introduced to the joys of peanut butter and nutella together in a hot sandwich (thanks boyfriend for introducing it to me!) (sorry mum! I promise I'm still getting my 5 portions of fruit and veg a day!)
...actively avoiding any form of DIY or home improvements
...seen more rain than I need to
...as a result of the rain I've been day-dreaming of a holiday to Ibiza (the quiet, laid back part of the island)
...had my first watermelon of the season (even if it wasn't quite the weather for it).
...cleared out my wardrobe, and donated bags and bags of clothes to charity.  Most of it grey - I didn't realise that I owned so many grey clothes.  I'm on the lookout for some more colourful clothes!
...Obsessing over Toms Shoes.  I already own a gold pair, but I really want some in red and grey.
...Speaking of shoes, I have had the biggest crush on these shoes:

Sadly they're a little out of my price range.  But I like to look at them every now and again and sigh.  Loudly.

What have you been up to?

Project 365 - Week 34

365/225 - Edinburgh apartments.

365/226 - Phone box

365/227 - Edinburgh University Student's Union

365/228 - Deacon Brodie's Tavern, Royal Mile, Edinburgh.

365/229 - I love the colour of this door.

365/230 - Rain, rain and more rain.  While the south of Britain has been basking in beautiful sunshine poor Scotland has been drenched in more rain than normal for this time of year.

365/231 - Despite the rain one of the better things about living in Scotland is that in summer it gets dark so late.  This was the sky at bed-time (10:30pm).  At the moment it doesn't get dark until well after 11pm, and it will continue to get lighter later and later until June 21st.  Of course, the corollary of this is that it barely gets light here in winter, but hey, who's worried about that at the moment?!  And excuse my dirty window - it's a skylight and there seems to be no way to wash it, save climbing out on to the roof (which I'm not doing!).
